(On Water) for chamber ensemble of string quartet, wind quintet & piano


The cycle in four movements is a musical treatise on different aspects of water —

1. H2O: physical
(the aggregate states solid (ice), fluid and gaseous and – related to those – the various sounds of water),

2. Lachrymae: psychic
(tears as an expression of sorrow and its overcoming),

3. Durst (Thirst): physiological
(water as an element of life and survival),

4. Reflektion: transcendental
(water – a lake – as a metaphor for the soul, revealing the infinity of the universe in its depth).


Three poems serve as a lyrical and musically structuring background.
