Liebeslieder (Love Songs)

No subject is as often sung about as love. After all and right from the beginning it is the power that keeps us and our world together.

My cycle of love songs follows a very personal motivation – it is a declaration of love to those who I cherish.

This led to the immediate decision to write the lyrics for the songs myself – and to take the words „Ich liebe dich” („I love you”) as an acrostichon to determine the initials of 12 poems.

Twelve songs, thus, to convey the message in different musical facets. In contrast to that the instrumentation stays constant: the „classic” pair of voice and piano (guitar for the first sketches) is joined by the violoncello enhancing the dialog.

In a last step I painted an aquarelle for each song; the 3 timbres (voice, piano, violoncello) are thus „mirrored” by the 3 arts poetry, music and painting.

We hear a recording of the first performance in the Anneliese Brost Music Forum, Bochum, on June 2, 2018.
